The Victims of Child Abuse Act of 1990, as amended, authorizes OJJDP to support the development of multidisciplinary teams and children's advocacy centers in local communities to improve their response to child abuse. It specifically directs the creation of four Regional Children's Advocacy Centers throughout the United States to provide training and technical assistance to local communities for this purpose.

This project focuses on providing these important resources to local and state CASA programs. Results will be measured by growth in the number of children served and volunteers activated as well as in the increase of volunteers of color. The population to benefit from this project is children who are involved in court proceedings because of abuse or neglect'primarily children in foster care. The direct target audience for this project includes state and local CASA program staff, volunteers, board members and judges.

The ICAC program is a national network of multi-agency, multi-jurisdictional task forces engaged in proactive investigations, forensic examinations, and effective prosecutions. Additionally, the task forces provide forensic, prevention, and investigation assistance to parents, educators, prosecutors, law enforcement, and others concerned with child victimization issues. Supplemental funding is being provided for the purpose of developing and implementing strategies to build the Task Forces' capacity to handle forensic investigations and reduce forensic backlogs.
