Abstract

This publication of the National Children’s Advocacy Center (NCAC), the Legal Guidebook for Children’s Advocacy Centers, covers the existence of CACs for more than 35 years, the legal challenges that await CACs when they are brought into criminal, civil, and family court litigations, and a plan to address these challenges. CACs are largely private, nonprofit corporations that partner with state actors as members of a multidisciplinary team (MDT). CACs are unique and difficult to fit into ready-made laws that do not consider our methods, structures, and activities. The majority of CACs across the United States are in severe need of competent and qualified legal counsel to represent their interests in legal matters. This guidebook is intended to help meet that need.
