Tribal Youth Program Training and Technical Assistance

The Education Development Center, Inc. (EDC)will provide training and technical assistance to the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention's (OJJDP) Tribal Youth Program grantees to develop comprehensive, systemic approaches to reduce juvenile delinquency, violence, and child victimization and increase the safety of tribal communities. EDC will provide services to support the development, planning, and implementation of innovative solutions to address juvenile delinquency and improve tribal juvenile justice systems in Indian Country. OJJDP FY 09 Demonstration Programs Division Grants was established to provide grants, cooperative agreements and other assistance to organizations designated by OJJDP, as authorized by the Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Act of 2002 (42 U.S.C. Sections 5601 et seq.) and statutes appropriating funds for juvenile justice programs.

The Education Development Center, Inc. (EDC) will provide training and technical assistance to the OJJDP's Tribal Youth Program, Tribal Juvenile Accountability Discretionary Grant Program grantees, Indian tribes as defined in 25 U.S.C 450(b)e, and Alaska Native communities to develop comprehensive, systemic approaches to reduce juvenile delinquency, violence, child victimization and increase the safety of tribal communities. OJJDPs Demonstration Programs Division Grants were established to provide grants, cooperative agreements, and other assistance to organizations identified in the Conference Report to accompany the Department of Justice Appropriations Act, 2010 (Pub. L. 111-117) -- H.R. Conf. Rep. No. 111-366.
EDC will use this supplemental funding for the OJJDP Tribal Youth Program (TYP) TTA Center to design, implement and evaluate the Attorney General's Conference and Tribal Youth Summit sessions. The Tribal Youth Summit will be an event scheduled for July 2010 involving tribal youth who represent the 12 Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) regions. In conjunction with the Tribal Youth Summit, the Attorney General will conduct Listening to the Voices of Native Youth, a listening session in which tribal youth will share their perspectives on the most critical needs of today's American Indian/Alaskan Native youth. The results of the Listening Session with Youth will be documented in a report that will be submitted to the Department of Justice. NCA/NCF
