NIJ Releases Two Reports on School Resource Officers
The National Institute of Justice has released two research reports on investigating the effectiveness of school resource officers (SROs):
- Investigator-Initiated Research: The Comprehensive School Safety Initiative Study of Police in Schools. This study assesses the effects of SROs on school disciplinary offenses and actions. Statistical Briefing Book Offers Data Snapshot on Trends in Youth Arrests
OJJDP has updated its Statistical Briefing Book with a new Data Snapshot that shows the decline of youth arrests through 2020. The snapshot draws on national arrest estimates from the FBI’s Uniform Crime Reporting Program. The data show the number of arrests involving youth fell 84 percent between 1996 and 2020.
