Multidisciplinary Team Facilitator Peer Forum: February 6, 2023
This no-cost, virtual forum, sponsored by OJJDP’s Regional Children's Advocacy Centers, is for child abuse professionals who serve as multidisciplinary team facilitators for a children’s advocacy center. Attendees will build their skills through small group discussions, resource sharing, and a question-and-answer session with regional staff. Forums are held quarterly; topics vary. Community Approaches to Sex Offender Management: February 6–7, 2023
This virtual training, sponsored by the National Criminal Justice Training Center, will provide an overview of how law enforcement agencies and members of the community can combat sexual violence. Topics include sex offender registration and community notification, relevant legislation, case law, and implementing a victim-centered approach. The training is designed for community corrections officers, law enforcement officers and staff, prosecutors, social workers, Tribal members and partners, and victim service providers. 2023 National Conference on Juvenile Justice: March 19–22, 2023
The National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges will host the National Conference on Juvenile Justice in Dallas, TX, for judges, probation officers, detention facility employees, and other juvenile justice stakeholders. Child Homicide Investigations: March 27–28, 2023
The National Criminal Justice Training Center is holding this in-person training in Denton, TX, to foster understanding and build relationships among forensic pathologists, homicide investigators, and prosecutors to help them successfully investigate and prosecute child homicide cases. Presenters will address unique aspects of these cases, including interviewing and interrogation, the development of a suspect pool, and the role and importance of the prosecutor. Additional topics include autopsy protocols, forensic essentials, and the urgency of determining the cause and manner of death. Registration information is available online.
National Indian Child Welfare Association 41st Annual Protecting Our Children Conference: April 2–5, 2023
The National Indian Child Welfare Association [https://www.nicwa.org/] is holding its 41st annual conference [https://www.nicwa.org/conference/] in Reno, NV, focusing on American Indian and Alaska Native child advocacy issues. Keynote speakers include federal officials and youth with lived experience in child welfare systems. The conference is designed for professionals from a cross-section of fields, including child welfare, mental health, and juvenile justice service providers; legal professionals; students; advocates for children; and Tribal, state, and federal leaders. Forensic Interviewing of Children Training: April 3–6, 2023
The National Children’s Advocacy Center will offer an in-person training in Huntsville, AL, on forensic interviews of children. Topics to be addressed include the dynamics of abuse, child development, memory and suggestibility, forensic conversations, pre-interview planning, and courtroom testimony. Participants are expected to complete 6 hours of prework prior to the first day of training. The in-person training will be offered again in May and July; a virtual training is scheduled for June. 86th Annual National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges Conference: July 16–19, 2023
The National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges will hold its annual conference in Baltimore, MD. Sessions will emphasize current topics related to the juvenile and family court systems. It is designed for a wide range of disciplines, with training tracks focused on family law, youth justice, child welfare, and family violence.
