Top Story: Marking 25 Years of AMBER Alerts: National System Plays a Key Role in Recovering Abducted Children

The AMBER Alert system got its start in Dallas-Fort Worth, TX, in response to the 1996 abduction and murder of 9-year-old Amber Hagerman. Since then, the idea of creating an emergency broadcast system for critically missing children has developed into a nationwide network.

Youth Voices: Frankie Lucio

Frankie Lucio began thinking about his future and a possible career in law enforcement after participating in an OJJDP-sponsored youth mentoring program and being mentored by a public affairs specialist in the FBI’s Houston field office.

According to Delinquency Cases in Juvenile Court, 2018, juvenile courts in the United States handled 744,500 delinquency cases in 2018 that involved juveniles charged with criminal law violations, 5 percent less than the number of cases handled in 2017. From 2005 through 2018, the number of delinquency cases declined by 55 percent.
