Creating a Safe School and Community Environment for Youth Part 1: Strategies and Solutions
Held on December 16, 2021 and hosted by OJJDP, this was the second in a 12-webinar series as part of OJJDP's Preventing Youth Hate Crimes & Identity-Based Bullying Initiative.
Webinar presenters described what safe and affirming behaviors look like versus rejecting behaviors; how to instill in children an appreciation and respect for one another's differences and help them develop empathy, conflict resolution and critical thinking skills; helped participants understand how schools, families, law enforcement, and communities work together to prevent the development of the prejudiced attitudes and violent behavior that lead to hate crimes; and explained how to create an equitable, supportive, safe and inclusive climate in schools and community programs for youth.
