This issue highlights gang-violence prevention, a Tribal youth leader, the "Bigs in Blue" mentoring program, and a new system for managing Department of Justice grants.

Abstract

This issue's top story and Message From the Administrator describe OJJDP's work to inform, equip, and train communities to reduce gang violence and crime. The Tribal youth leader featured is Sonwai Wakayute, who recently co-hosted one of three virtual town halls for Tribal youth. The Bigs in Blue mentoring program incorporates law enforcement officials in one-to-one volunteer mentoring programs. This provides mentoring programs the opportunity for youth and their families to interact with law enforcement officers in a friendly and constructive atmosphere. The Justice Department has completed the changeover to JustGrants, a new grants and payment management system. The described system eases the burden on grant applicants, award recipients, and federal staff. The News in Brief section discusses an OJJDP orientation for new Internet Crimes Against Children task force commanders, an OJJDP training for administrators of juvenile correctional facilities, the 2020 International Association of Chiefs of Police Conference, and National Bullying Prevention Month.
