This issue of OJJDP News at a Glance presents six feature articles focusing on at-risk and delinquent girls, the U.S. Department of Justice Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP) grant awards for Fiscal Year 2010, release of the National Needs Assessment of Juvenile Justice Professionals, National Amber Alert symposium, Tribal children and families in the dependency court system, and evaluation of Gang Reduction Program.
The first article, Understanding and Responding to the Needs of At-Risk and Delinquent Girls, provides an overview of the research, training and technical assistance in the prevention, intervention, treatment, and aftercare programs for at-risk and delinquent girls, gender-specific programming, assessment tools, OJJDP resources, and future initiatives and strategies for at-risk and delinquent girls. The second article, Fiscal Year 2010 Awards Total $519 Million, presents an overview formula and block grants, and discretionary grants awarded by OJJDP in Fiscal Year 2010, as well as awards under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. The third article, OJJDP Publishes Results of Training and Technical Assistance Needs Assessment provides an overview of items identified by respondents in the areas of program operations, information technology, sustainability, and working with youth. It also presents the top 10 unmet training needs and top 10 emerging trends and issues. The fourth article provides an overview of the National AMBER Alert Symposium held in Arizona in November 2010. The fifth article, Improving Outcomes for Tribal Children and Families in the Dependency Court System provides an overview of initiatives and strategies for the improvement of dependency court practices related to Tribal families as well as the development of recommendation for improving courts. The sixth and final article presents an overview of findings from the Urban Institute's evaluation of OJJDP's Gang Reduction Program. In addition to the featured articles, information is provided on upcoming events, news briefs, new publications, and news from both the Coordinating Council on Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention and the Federal Advisory Committee on Juvenile Justice.
