Comparative racial/ethnic data are presented for Hispanic youth involved in delinquency cases for the years 2005-2014, along with their disposition and sentencing data for 2014.
Abstract
Delinquency cases that involved Hispanic youth declined 33 percent from 2005 to 2014; cases of White youth declined 48 percent; and cases involving Black youth decreased 37 percent. Delinquency case rates were similar for Hispanic and White youth, which has been a stable pattern for 2005-2014. Drug offense cases involving Hispanic youth decreased 26 percent between 2005 and 2014, and rates for other offenses fell by just over 40 percent. Compared with White and Black youth processed in the justice system in 2014, Hispanic youth had a smaller proportion of person offenses compared with processed Black or White youths; however, Hispanic youth were more likely than White or Black youth to be adjudicated delinquent in 2014. In 2014, just over 60 percent of adjudicated delinquency cases involving Hispanic youth were given probation. 6 figures
