This newsletter reports on events, research, training, and programs related to the work of the National Gang Center, which conducts research on street gangs and serves as a clearinghouse for individuals and agencies that seek information, technical assistance, and training in the areas of gang prevention, intervention, suppression, and reentry.
The newsletter's featured article focuses on the effect that anti-gang messages from a caring adult can have in a young person's life and tips for discussing gang-related issues with youth. This edition features the National Gang Center bulletin "Getting Out of Gangs, Staying Out of Gangs" that was published in February 2013. It provides an overview of current gang desistence research; describes intervention strategies for supporting the gang desistence process; and presents sample case studies of individuals who successfully transitioned out of gangs. The NGC Trainer Spotlight features the president of the National Alliance of Gang Investigators Associations. This issue also includes updates to gang legislation as of December 2012.
