This journal highlights the importance of parent-child relationships and features ways to improve the family's capacity for child welfare.
Abstract
The lead article, Raising Responsible and Resourceful Youth, grew out of a White House Conference on Teenagers. The Conference brought together parents, teenagers, and professionals to discuss ways families and communities can teach youth sound values, promote healthy behavior, and support positive development. The article includes observations by First Lady Hillary Rodham Clinton that summarize the Conference's discussion topics and present several new initiatives and resources for youth and their families. Strengthening America's Families claims that improving parenting practices and the family environment is the most effective and enduring strategy for combating juvenile delinquency. The third major article discusses how Team H.O.P.E. (Help Offering Parents Empowerment) helps families of missing children cope with their crises by linking them with trained volunteers who have gone through similar experiences.
