Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2020, $500,000)

The Juvenile Justice System Enhancements program will support efforts to enhance systems that address public safety by holding offenders accountable and supporting child victims. This includes the juvenile justice system as well as those agencies responsible for investigating and prosecuting online child exploitation.

The Nebraska Administrative Office of the Courts and Probation will use funding to reduce the overuse of out-of-home
13 placement. The purpose of the project is to review and evaluate the Juvenile Services Division, which has statewide oversight of the juvenile justice system, to determine the impact of current reform efforts and to identify and implement critical next steps. The strategies to accomplish this will include a probation system review along with technical assistance from nationally recognized juvenile justice experts. The review will support the development of a long-term comprehensive probation system improvement plan. CA/NCF
