Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2020, $690,554)

The OJJDP FY 2020 Opioid Affected Youth Initiative (OAYI) will support the efforts of states, communities, tribal jurisdictions, nonprofit organizations, for-profit organizations and institutions of higher education to implement programs and strategies that identify, respond to, treat, and support children, youth, and families impacted by the opioid epidemic.

The Families Matter! program is an opioid and substance abuse prevention, intervention, and treatment program that will focus on two counties in Michigan, and addresses family concerns through prevention programming for youth ages 7 to 17 and their families. Prevention, intervention, and treatment of substance use disorders, mental health disorders, and co-occurring disorders will have a positive impact on the number of youth crimes and arrests, the number of opioid-related deaths, and the number of children who are in out-of-home care because of parental substance use. The intervention addresses trauma, addiction, and safety as the overarching goal. CA/NCF
