The Formula Grants Program is authorized under the Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (JJDP) Act. The purpose of this program is to support state and local delinquency prevention and intervention efforts and juvenile justice system improvements. Supported activities and efforts may include planning and administration, establishing, operating, coordinating, and evaluating projects directly or through grants and contracts with public and private agencies for the development of more effective education, training, research, prevention, diversion, treatment, and rehabilitation programs in the area of juvenile delinquency and programs to improve the juvenile justice system as found in section 221 of the JJDP Act. The Minnesota Juvenile Justice Advisory Committee (JJAC) is a supervisory board appointed by the Minnesota Governor to oversee juvenile justice practice within Minnesota. It is housed in the Office of Justice Programs (OJP) within the Minnesota Department of Public Safety (DPS). Minnesota Department of Public Safety – Office of Justice Programs, in coordination with the Minnesota Juvenile Justice Advisory Committee, serves as the agency designated to prepare and administer this plan. Minnesota Statute 299A.72 establishes sole responsibility for the supervision, preparation and administration of the state plan required by the JJPA with the Minnesota Department of Public Safety. JJAC's plans for the Formula Grants Program for FY 2020 include allocations to Planning and Administration, State Advisory Group Allocation, Compliance Monitoring, Native American Programs, Juvenile Justice System Improvement, Disproportionate Minority Contact, Deinstitutionalization of Status Offenders, and Delinquency Prevention.
