Award Information
Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2020, $139,432)
This program is authorized by 34 U.S.C. § 11131 and supports the development and improvement of state, tribal, county, and local juvenile residential facilities with particular focus on establishing an emergency plan that ensures the continuity of operations, reduction of risk to the physical plant, and the safety and well-being of youth and staff in juvenile justice residential facilities.
AMIkids, Inc. seeks to use this funding to revise its Continuity of Operations Plan for each of its facilities to include the use of a mobile towable generator, which will be deployed by AMIkids Inc.s risk management team in the event of an emergency that results in an extended power outage. This funding will cover the purchase of the generator and electrical hookups for each of the 12 facilities. In addition, training will be developed and implemented for program staff on the proper usage of the generator.
The goal of this project is to enhance facility preparedness and safety for 12 of its juvenile justice residential facilities in the states of Florida, South Carolina, Louisiana, and Texas. These facilities have the capacity to serve 282 youth at any given time. All of these programs are in locations that have historically high risks for natural disasters and emergencies such as hurricanes, tornadoes, lightning strikes, and ice storms. CA/NCF
