Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2018, $748,622)
This program promotes and expands services in detention and correctional facilities to incarcerated individuals who have children younger than age 18, and provides states and localities with funding to implement positive family engagement strategies and activities that address the needs of incarcerated parents with minor children. This program is authorized under the Department of Justice Appropriations Act, 2018, Pub. L. No. 115-141.
The County of Los Angeles will use funding to provide a portable classroom within the security fencing to allow for an expansion and enhancement to the Adults Bonding with Children (ABC) Program. The target population will be any mother with minor children who participates in the parenting class and does not have visitation restrictions. The project will also expand evidence-based programming and services to the mother, her children, and the childrens caretaker to help strengthen family bonds, advance reentry planning, and reduce recidivism.
