Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2016, $400,698)

The Formula Grants Program is authorized under the Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (JJDP) Act and funds are made available as a result of the FY 2016 Department of Justice appropriations. The purpose of this program is to support state and local delinquency prevention and intervention efforts and juvenile justice system improvements. Program areas may include: planning and administration; state advisory group allocation; compliance monitoring; prevention; and activities to address the core requirements and improvement of juvenile justice system operations and policies, as found in section 223(a)(9) of the JJDP Act.

The Nebraska Commission On Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice will use its FY16 Title II Formula Grant Funds to better the state’s juvenile justice system. The allocated funding will provide support for a Juvenile Justice Specialist, part-time Compliance Monitor, part-time DMC Coordinator, prevention, intervention, and alternatives to detention programs. The population to be served will consist of at-risk youth entering, exiting, or avoiding the juvenile justice system. Progress will be measured by considering the goals and objectives, requiring subgrantees to submit quarterly program reports that provide data for the required outcomes and measurements for the purposes of the area, including the OJJDP-required performance measures.
