Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2016, $1,000,000)

The purpose of the Juvenile Drug Courts Training and Technical Assistance Program is to further OJJDP’s mission to promote best practices related to the implementation of juvenile drug courts (JDCs) and to ensure positive outcomes and treatment for youth dealing with substance abuse issues that are referred to juvenile drug courts. The Juvenile Drug Courts Training and Technical Assistance program will build, develop, and expand juvenile drug court training and technical assistance for mental health and substance abuse treatment practitioners and juvenile drug court teams nationally. Since the treatment component of the juvenile drug court is critical for successful outcomes, the need for significant training and development exists. Through this program, OJJDP aims to improve the delivery of treatment services of juvenile drug courts nationally, enhance the juvenile drug court model, promote promising and best treatment practices and behavioral approaches, facilitate coordination and leveraging of resources, and enhance research efforts.
The delivery of training and technical assistance under this program will include working with OJJDP and the current Initiative to Develop and Test Guidelines for Juvenile Drug Courts provider. OJJDP will expect the provider selected under this program to deliver training and technical assistance focused on implementing the Guidelines (anticipated to be released in the spring of 2016) and participating in the related studies under that Initiative.
