2015 Statewide Formula Grant Program

The Formula Grants Program is authorized under the Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (JJDP) Act of 1974, as amended. The purpose of this program is to support state and local delinquency prevention and intervention efforts and juvenile justice system improvements. Program areas may include: planning and administration; state advisory group allocation; compliance monitoring; disproportionate minority contact; juvenile justice issues for Native American Indian tribes; prevention of substance abuse by juveniles; prevention of serious and violent crimes by juveniles; prevention of juvenile gang involvement and illegal youth gang activities; prevention of delinquent acts and identification of youth at risk of delinquency; and improvement of juvenile justice system operations, policies, and procedures including establishing a system of graduated sanctions, treatment programs, and aftercare as found in section 223(a)(9) of the JJDP Act.

The Formula Grant Program (FGP) in the State of Oklahoma Governor's Office/Department of Juvenile Justice exists for the purpose of addressing the state’s priority juvenile justice needs, as identified through statistical data and demonstrated service gaps. The FGP serves at-risk juveniles, throughout the state, from pre-school to the age of majority. Oklahoma’s Governor’s Advisory Group on Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention reviews applications and awards grants to local units of government, non-profits and faith-based organizations, to implement evidenced-based model programming, with the intent to impact priority juvenile justice needs. Grants are awarded in the categories of prevention, disproportionate minority over-representation and Native American prevention programming. The objectives and goals of the FGP are to increase evidenced-based services to at-risk juveniles, reduce disparity at identified contact points in the relative rate index for minority youth and increase the number of collaborative efforts between Tribal governments and local partners that implement self-sustaining evidenced-based prevention programs for at-risk Native youth. Data to measure progress towards these goals is gathered via quarterly reports required of grantees, the statewide juvenile online tracking system and annual reporting data gathered for submission into the federal DCTAT reporting tool.
