Title II Formula Grant

The Formula Grants Program is authorized under the Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (JJDP) Act of 1974, as amended. The purpose of this program is to support state and local delinquency prevention and intervention efforts and juvenile justice system improvements through a range of administration, compliance and program activities including those that address juvenile justice issues for Native American Indian tribes.

The Washington State Partnership Council on Juvenile Justice (WA-PCJJ) had identified three principal priority areas -- DMC; transitional services/reentry; and eliminating the incarceration of status offenders and low risk offenders -- as well as three main goals: (1) Expand utilization of community-based alternatives and best practices to reduce incarceration in all 39 counties; (2) ensure youth involved in the juvenile justice system have continuity and access to meaningful treatment, education, housing, employment and community support; and (3) empower youth and communities to reduce juvenile crime.

Based on these priorities, the Washington has allocated Formula Grant Program funds in the 2014 three-year plan update to the following seven federal program areas: DMC, Aftercare/Reentry, Juvenile Justice System Improvement, Compliance Monitoring, American Indian Pass-Through, P & A, and State Advisory Group. The WA-PCJJ also continues to maintain 20 youth members on the Youth Standing Committee to help ensure the perspective of youth is incorporated into planning. NCA/NCF
