State of North Carolina Title II Grants Program

The Formula Grants Program is authorized under the Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (JJDP) Act of 1974, as amended. The purpose of this program is to support State and local delinquency prevention and intervention efforts and juvenile justice system improvements. Program areas may include: Planning and administration; State Advisory Group allocation; compliance monitoring; juvenile justice issues for American Indian tribes; prevention of substance abuse by juveniles; prevention of serious and violent crimes by juveniles; prevention of juvenile gang involvement and illegal youth gang activities; prevention of delinquent acts and identification of youth at risk of delinquency; and improvement of juvenile justice system operations, policies, and procedures including establishing a system of graduated sanctions, treatment programs, and aftercare.

The OJJDP FY 2011 Title II Formula Grants Program in the State of North Carolina is administered by the North Carolina Department of Crime Control and Public Safety. The State of North Carolina is committed to funding programs that meet the growing needs of the young people within the State. The mission of the North Carolina Juvenile Justice Planning Committee (SAG) is to provide resources for youth who are at-risk of becoming delinquent due to individual, school, family, peer or community factors. The Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) will use fifty percent of its Title II formula funds to provide services for youth who are delinquent, undisciplined, or involved in the juvenile court process from intake through aftercare; programming will include vocational services for court involved youth and services for suspended youth as well as address disproportionate minority contact. North Carolina will use their remaining funds to support initiatives and programs that will help assist the State with regaining full compliance with the JJDP Act 1974, as amended.
