The OJJDP FY 09 Earmarks Programs further the Department's mission by providing grants, cooperative agreements, and other assistance authorized by the Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Act of 1974, as amended, to organizations identified in the Explanatory Statement Regarding H.R. 1105 (Omnibus Appropriations Act, 2009), 155 Cong. Rec. H1653 (daily ed. Feb. 23, 2009) (statement by Rep. Obey, Chairman of the Committee on Appropriations of the House).
Sid Jacobson Jewish Community Center (JCC) in partnership with Concerned Citizens for Roslyn Youth, Inc., seeks to provide an after school program for minority at risk elementary school children who reside in the low income housing developments in their community. The program goal is to enable participants to improve academically, behaviorally and socially resulting in increased achievement in performance in these areas, decreasing instances of failure in school and anti-social behaviors that are currently pervasive among the target population.
The program will provide daily academic support with the use of certified teachers; social skills groups led by social workers; and a myriad of enrichment classes taught by specialists. Performance measures will be tracked through collection of report card data, surveys of parents/guardians and teachers, and focus groups with parents.
The measurements will show increased success in key academic areas, increases in personal development skills, and decreases in anti-social behaviors. NCA/NCF
