Expanding the Use of DMC Data: Analysis of Patterns to Identify Best Practices

OJJDP's Demonstration Programs Division Grants were established to provide grants, cooperative agreements, and other assistance to organizations identified in the Conference Report to accompany the Department of Justice Appropriations Act, 2010 (Pub. L. 111-117) -- H.R. Conf. Rep. No. 111-366.

The overall goals of this research are to conduct a national analysis of Relative Rate Index data to identify jurisdictions that have shown a consistent positive movement in the values over 3 consecutive years, to obtain detailed information on the approaches used by these jurisdictions, and to produce detailed case studies that can be replicated by other jurisdictions. Additionally, the study will yield data on disproportionate minority contact (DMC) in localities, in States, and across the Nation at the nine contact points in the juvenile justice system. An assessment of the longitudinal RRI data and State plans will identify promising and best practices in DMC. NCA/NCF

This program furthers the Department's mission by providing grants and cooperative agreements for research and evaluation activities to organizations that OJJDP designates.
The purpose of this award is to complete activities associated with a research study conducted by DSG, Inc. and funded by OJJDP in 2009. From 2009 to 2014, DSG completed all of the goals and objectives in the original proposal, and submitted a draft report to OJJDP on the study findings. During the continuation period, DSG will work closely with OJJDP to finalize and carry out a dissemination strategy for the study results, including producing a series of key products (such as, a practitioner brief, research brief, journal article, fact sheet, Webinar, and conference presentation), which will assist OJJDP with maximizing the study's results for policy.
