Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2009, $360,000)

The goal of the Enforcing Underage Drinking Laws (EUDL) Program is to support and enhance State efforts, in cooperation with local jurisdictions, to enforce laws prohibiting the sale of alcoholic beverages, or the consumption of alcoholic beverages by minors. For the purpose of the program, minors are defined as individuals under 21 years of age.

The State of Utah plans to provide program funding to support underage drinking enforcement efforts throughout the State by implementing several activities including: funding community-based Youth Alcohol and Drug Enforcement taskforces, implementing a statewide media campaign to increase awareness of the effects of underage drinking, developing and distributing informational brochures to educate the community and parents on the effects of alcohol on the adolescent brain, providing mini-grants to college/university campus and youth court programs to expand alcohol-free activities for youth, and enhance training opportunities for officers on different methods of enforcing underage drinking laws.
