Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2008, $400,000)
The Walker River Paiute Tribe in Nevada will implement a prevention/intervention program concerning juvenile delinquency risk factors. The project will serve approximately 155 juveniles aged six through seventeen. The project will be based out of the Tribal Education Department but will also include the surrounding high schools and Schurz Elementary School. This community-based project will work with the surrounding schools, courts, social service, health/mental health and Victim of Crimes department to identify students deemed 'at-risk' and provide community-based, culturally-appropriate services to address these issues. Risk factors that will be addressed include dropping out of school, delinquent behaviors, alcohol/substance abuse, truancy, credit deficiencies, and follow through of juvenile court sanctions. The tribe will report on OJJDP Mandatory Tribal Youth Program performance measures. CA/NCF
