Best Resource Center seeks to decrease youth involvement in gangs and juvenile delinquent activity in Newburgh and throughout Orange County, increase educational access, and increase parental involvement. Over a two year period 200 youth will be recruited and interviewed, 100 selected, and enrolled. Fifty percent will complete the program and show improvements in one or multiple areas which include: increased awareness of accessible service providers, educational gains, entering into employment, academic or retention, skills attainment, reduction in gang involvement, enrollment in recovery programs, reduction or elimination of substance abuse (drug and/or alcohol), decreased involvement in illicit activities, enrollment in post-secondary education, enrollment into other training programs, increased parent involvement, decreased need for subsidized employment, increased compliancy with Department of Social Services, decreased truancy, continued retention in middle and secondary education facilities and decreased involvement in returning to detention or correctional facilities. The project will offer classes and services on Monday through Friday, and on Saturday. Progress will also be measured by the number of enrollment, retention, and completion of program components.
