Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2008, $26,830)
The City of Irwindale will expand its existing teen programming to include after school activities and weekend programs for the teens in the community. Working in collaboration with programs such as LA Works, the local school district and other community outreach programs, the project will implement a series of workshops that focus on issues such as alcohol and drug abuse, teenage pregnancy, and internet safety. The project will also provide teens with monthly classes on resume writing, preparing for the Exit exam, interview etiquette and other skill building activities. Performance measures will include a pre- and post-survey of program participants' attitudes and self-reported behavior. In addition, the project will measure juvenile arrests and recidivism. NCA/NCF
