After-school programs are critical to the success and safety of children and youth. Children who regularly attend the LOOP -- a collaborative, quality after school program within the Grand Rapids Public Schools, have better school attendance, better grades and are not involved in criminal offenses. (Grand Rapids Public Schools, 2003).This grant will help ensure that the LOOP is expanded to three more elementary school sites serving an additional 244 youth next year. The LOOP will provide tutoring, and a full array of cultural enrichment opportunities that support life-long skills and interactive learning during the critical hours of 2-6pm during the school year and 6 weeks of summer programming. Outcomes include improved academic achievement, school attendance, and the development of life skills. NCA/NCF
