Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2008, $321,965)
Save Our Future/Mothers on the March (SOF/MOM) will "break the cycle of gang members moving from communities to detention to corrections and prisons and back into communities" by providing at-risk youth with marketable job skills and gainful employment opportunities to encourage their avoidance of the lucrative drug market. The project will accomplish its goal through the implementation of an after school program focused on training youth in marketable skills, such as multimedia production and computer technology, and by referring youth to agencies that can help them secure employment. The program will serve as many as 60 clients at any one time and is expected to serve 200 clients/year. Performance measures will include: the number of youths placed into jobs as well as the number of participating youth who are not re-incarcerated. NCA/NCF
