Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2007, $250,000)

The proposed program will provide education, training, and technical assistance to Girls Inc. affiliates, to facilitate their successful participation in the SMART Partners group mentoring program recently developed by the national Girls Inc. organization. SMART Partners is an aspect of Thinking SMART, a new Girls Inc. program which encourages middle school girls to explore and pursue careers in science, math, and relevant technology. The overall goal of SMART Partners is to enhance the capacity of Girls Incorporated affiliates to offer group mentoring to the girls and young women they serve. Through education, training, and technical assistance provided by the national organization, the program will improve the quality of the programming of independent local agencies. NCA/NCF
