The Youth Crime Watch (YCW) program will expand the City of Jackson's existing Safe Neighborhood and Youth Development Initiative to include collaboration between the Jackson Police Department (through implementation of a Police Athletic League for youth); the Jackson Public School District and the targeted community. The objective will be to design and maintain a community-based prevention/intervention program that provides supervision, tracking and evaluation for improved services to at least 50 at-risk youth between the ages of 7-16. Other objectives include enhancement of crime prevention efforts through increased police/community partnerships and greater citizen participation. Progress will be measured by improved coordination among networking agencies, reduction in recidivism among juvenile offenders, improved support system for juvenile services, reduction in overcrowding in juvenile detention centers, and an increase in community awareness and neighborhood restoration.
