Fairfax Partnership for Youth's Support on Suspension (SOS) is designed to provide students, grades 7 - 12, with an opportunity to stay abreast of academic work missed due to school suspension. SOS gives students an opportunity to work with volunteer mentors and staff to address academic requirements and receive instruction in anger/aggression management, conflict resolution and communication skills. The program is designed to help them reflect on the choices they make and to develop positive characteristics as well as basic coping and human interaction skills. SOS will increase parental involvement and participation in the education of their children. Fairfax Partnership for Youth will track progress by reporting performance measures to OJJDP including: improvements in school attendance, decreased antisocial behavior, improvements in social competence, and decreased youth offending.
