Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2005, $493,322)

The Transition to Independence Program (TIP) will provide educational and vocational training through the creation of a community-based group home, as part of a 3-phase continuum targeting older foster care youth who have lived in a high number of placements. TIP will help these youth become more independent, by providing stability as well as various community resources, including education, life skills training, and notification of available housing options. With the implementation of TIP, the number of youth in the group home will go up by at least 14, and transitional support will be provided to at least 200 youth. These goals will be measured through a thorough final evaluation at the programs completion, which will focus on the number of youth who are successful academically and/or vocationally after going through the program.
