FY 2005 OJJDP Congressional Earmark Programs

CORE Philadelphia (CPS) aims to increase the access and retention of at risk students to higher education by taking both a direct student service intrusive counseling approach and systems improvement approach for addressing this issue. CPS works to identify and award as many CORE Philly Scholarships to qualified at-risk youth as possible. It also provides all CORE Scholarship recipients assistance with the college application and financial aid process as well as providing intrusive advising and retention support activities. The systems improvement approach focuses on CORE Philly working in partnership to organize and maintain a consortium of area programs that address youth service prevention issues via stay in-school, career and/or college access and retention programs for at-risk youth. The CORE Philly Consortium will consist of a working partnership involving CORE Philly and direct-service prevention programs, target middle and high schools, CORE Philly affiliated universities and other stay-in school, career and college awareness, access, preparation, and retention programs that service at risk youth. The consortium will establish a network for identifying and sharing best-practices and development of new and innovative programs for better servicing at-risk youth with a focus on stay-in school, career awareness, college and graduate school awareness and entry requirements.
