The Juvenile and Family Drug Court Discretionary Grant Program is designed to assist states, state courts, local courts, units of local government, and Indian tribal governments in developing and establishing drug courts for substance-abusing and juvenile offenders. Drug court programs funded by the Juvenile and Family Drug Court Discretionary Grant Program are required by law to target nonviolent offenders. The Program supports the following activities: Juvenile drug court implementation, Family drug court implementation, Single jurisdiction drug court enhancement, Statewide drug court enhancement, and planning efforts. Ouachita Parish will use these grant funds to operate a juvenile drug court. The drug court will have the capacity to monitor and treat 30 juveniles a year. The juveniles ages 13-16 will have been exposed to at least twelve months of custody as a result of a nonviolent crime committed in Ouachita Parish. The Fourth Judicial District Court (4th JDC) Juvenile Drug Court will reduce the number of non-violent juvenile offenders held in detention, reduce recidivism amongst participants, enhance educational/vocational achievements and strengthen individuals, families and communities.
