Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2004, $197,895)

The Southern Vermont Recreation Center Foundation Inc. will provide physical fitness and nutrition programs for at-risk children and youth in a new recreation facility serving eight rural towns in southeastern Vermont. The program's goals and objectives are to: reduce the number of delinquency cases by providing staff to design and provide physical fitness and nutrition programs, while complementing these programs with anger management and substance abuse prevention components for children and youth from the eight-town region. Southern Vermont Recreation Center Foundation Inc.'s performance measures for this program include: 1) improved child and youth health data; 2) reduced school absenteeism and academic performance, particularly for Special Education students; 3) and decrease in juvenile arrests by police. These measures will be reported to OJJDP in the grantee's Categorical Assistance Progress Report. NCA/NCF
