Award Information
Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2003, $198,700)
This grant is for the Second District Children's Court of New Mexico, to add a court component to the current public schools truancy program (TPP) in Albuquerque, NM. The project will focus on the toughest truancy cases, which have not been resolved through administrative efforts at the school level. In these cases, the District Attorney will utilize the state's compulsory attendance law to require parents of elementary school truants to appear before a judicial officer and proceed to Truancy Court mediation. In mediation, an action plan is developed to improve attendance and the court monitors compliance of this agreement.
