The Center for Alternative Sentencing and Employment Services (CASES) - Community Prep High School helps court involved youth to either re-enter mainstream schools or prepares the youth to join the workforce. CASES partners with the New York City Department of Education and the City University of New York. Activities include: tutoring/individual counseling, movement and sports/fitness; art therapy; employment readiness training and internship; art & entrepreneurship for girls, and cultural and recreational trips. Teachers and youth development staff help youth build competencies, develop positive relationships with adults and with authority figures, learn strategies for making good decisions, and accountable for their own action. Community Prep offers a resource- intensive program, with small classes, to each youth with attention on individual needs, interests, learning styles and method of expression. The youth will spend 9-15 months and 100 youth will be served in the program. The Community Prep also offers rewards such as movie tickets or gift certificates for positive social and academic achievement such as good attendance and participation.
