Award Information
Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2003, $496,750)
The Kansas Big Brothers/Big Sisters project will build character and promote positive, healthy youth development in 1500 additional Kansas children living in primarily rural unserved or undeserved areas who are most at-risk of educational failure, dropping out of school, or involvement in criminal or delinquent activities by matching them with carefully screened mentors who will provide them with emotional support, academic assistance and exposure to new experiences.
Using Big Brothers/Big Sisters of America's science based evaluation system, Program-Based Outcome Evaluation (POE), children, teachers, parents and volunteers will report improvement in the child's confidence at the end of the school year (or after the match has met six months).
