Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2003, $834,439)

The Oregon Partnership will establish a statewide infrastructure to implement The Champions for Healthy Kids and Communities Program. The Oregon Partnership will provide youth and adult prevention education and leadership development utilizing a multi level and multi sector approach to reduce substance abuse and underage drinking in Oregon. The Champions for Healthy Kids Program will provide media literacy training with age appropriate teaching tools and activities to 3000 students and 1000 parents and will teach parents the skills to become pro active in addressing the problem of underage drinking in five elementary and eight middle schools. The program will provide culturally appropriate treatment referrals and educational prevention materials to 1800 Latinos thru the Linea de Ayuda (Spanish help line). In addition Oregon Partnership will organize and coordinate a statewide Prevention conference on Underage Drinking and Drug Use to present the latest research findings and evidence based practices to a variety of community sectors.
