PROJECT SUMMARY FOR 96-CV-VX-0055
The Wisconsin Department of Corrections (WDOC) will use its award for the continuation of two construction projects.

First, the WDOC will continue buidling a 64-bed special management unit at the Taycheedah Correctional Institution for violent adult female offenders with mental health problems. Second,the WDOC will continue the construction of 750 medium security beds at the New Lisbon Correctional Institution for adult male offenders.The WDOC may also use up to l0 percent of this award to further refine its random urinalysis testing data system.

This award represents a supplement to the sixth year of funding of the Violent Offender Incarceration/Truth-in-Sentencing Incentive Grant Program(VOI/TIS). The program assists states in developing additional capacity for violent offenders through construction or lease of prison beds. Beginning with FY 1999 funding, the recipient may use up to ten percent of the VOI/TIS award for expenses associated with implementing a program of drug testing, intervention, and sanctions for incarcerted offenders or offenders under corrections supervision. The amount available for this purpose is: $1,111,010 from previous awards, plus $346,966 from this award, for a total of $1,457,976.
