The Martin Luther King Jr. Association for Non Violence, Inc.' s pre-college "College for Teens Program" represents a comprehensive youth development program that can be used as a national model for extended-day/extended-year programs to strengthen "at-risk" public school students, their families, and the surrounding communities. This youth development program model emphasizes three major components: an After-school tutorial and enrichment program (AASTEP); an eight week Summer College Residency Program (SUCCES); and a year-round Mentoring/Career Development and Life Skills Program (MCLS). The overall goal of the pre-college program is to increase the number of low-income and minority students who successfully complete high school and are prepared to enter and succeed in college. The College for Teens program is uniquely configured to provide an intensive career education mentoring program, delivered on a college campus; that exposes students to diverse career opportunities beginning at age nine. The College For Teens program addresses the student achievement gap in the Philadelphia School District by providing after school tutorial and enrichment activities and year round mentoring for youth in Philadelphia. The goal of the program is to increase the number of low-income and minority students who successfully complete high school and are prepared to enter and succeed in college. This pre-college program provides services that improve public school students achievement. The performance measures for this project are improvement of academic achievement and successful admission to college.
