Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2001, $99,704)
Healthy Community Coalition serves Androscoggin and Franklin Counties, both of which are rural communities with a combined population of approximately 29,467. Through Project Youth to Youth the coalition seeks to accomplish two main goals, (1) reduce substance abuse among Androscoggin and Franklin County youth and (2) establish and strengthen collaboration among communities, nonprofit agencies, federal, state, local, and tribal governments.
The coalition will continue to implement the following strategies: 1) increase youth participation in after-school and community opportunities, 2) increase involvment of community organizations, parents, school officials, and others in Project Youth to Youth, 3) expand the community mentoring program for high school students, 4) engage coaches in promoting the Tobacco-Free Athletes program, 5) increase youth involvement on the coalition board 6) host the Saddleback Youth Summit and 7)establish a youth-developed website. In addition, Healthy Community Coalition's will implement a community-based evaluation and collect data to measure progress and plan for a sustainable future. CA/NCF
