Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2001, $99,767)
The Ledge Light Health District is the fiscal agent for the Groton Adolescent Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition (GASP). The GASP Coalition serves elementary, middle, and high school students in Groton and New London, Connecticut. The goals of the coalition are to reduce substance abuse among youth and, over time, among adults and to strengthen and broaden the collaboration among community stakeholders. To achieve these goals, the coalition will implement the following strategies:
1) support the Second Step, Smart Moves, Maritime Academy, Strengthening Families, Aviation Camp, and Art for All youth programs;
2) recruit new members and strengthen the community coalition;
3) facilitate community recognition for special prevention activities;
4) serve as a catalyst to increase citizen participation; and
5) implement the 2004 Substance Abuse Assessment Survey.
