Project Summary for 2001-JD-FX-0008 S1
The Broward County Sheriff's Office is completing a detailed assessment of the local youth gang problem and is developing a program plan that will include community-wide collaboration to implement gang prevention, intervention, and suppression activities as called for under OJJDP's Comprehensive Gang Model. The five key strategies of OJJDP's Comprehensive Gang Model are (1) community mobilization, (2) social intervention including street outreach, (3) suppression, (4) vocational and educational opportunities provision, and (5) organizational change. The current application for funding will support the first year of implementation of this program plan. Although a direct match is not required for this funding period, the applicant will be drawing together additional resources to support full implementation of the Comprehensive Gang Model.
