JUVENILE JUSTICE AND DELINQUENCY PREVENTION CONGRESSIONAL EARMARK PROGRAMS

The primary purpose of the Milwaukee Public Schools-Recreation Division (MPS) Summer Stars Teen Program is to provide programming and facilities for 3,000 teenage youth (ages 13-17) to participate in safe, supervised, recreational and enrichment activities during the summer evening hours. The Summer Stars Teen Program has four goals: Operate six MPS-Recreation community center sites what will serve as HUBs for activities/programs that will educate and engage Milwaukee teenagers in safe/adult-supervised recreation; expand the Summer Stars "Teen Council" structure to address and identify solutions to teenage at-risk behavioral problems through supervised recreational activities and programs; develop special activities that target and give support to youth who are experiencing severe problems in the areas of education, juvenile justice and teenage pregnancies (especially minorities), and reduce juvenile criminal activity by 2% in the areas surrounding the teen center sites. The purpose of this program is to provide approximately 4,000 teenage youth, ages 13-17, with safe, supervised, recreational and educational enrichment activities during the summer evening hours. The program is to be implemented in three regions of service within Milwaukee. The Northern Region will have three community center sites. The Central Region will have two community center sites. The Southern Region will have two community center sites. Each of the seven community centers will provide two to five nights of activities per week. NCA/NCF
