FY 2004 Continuation Drug-Free Communities Support Program

The City of Beattyville is the fiscal agent for the People Encouraging People Coalition. The coalition serves the city of Beattyville and Lee County, Kentucky, a rural area with a population of approximately 7,000. The goals of the coalition are to 1) reduce substance abuse among youth and over time, among adults by addressing the factors in a community that serve to minimize the risk of substance abuse and 2) strengthen the collaboration among communities, governments, and private non-profit agencies to support community coalition efforts to prevent and reduce substance abuse. To achieve those goals, the coalition will implement the following strategies:
1) support clerk/server training and compliance checks;
2) implement community alcohol, tobacco, and other drug prevention training;
3) continue process and outcome evaluation for all coalition activities;
4) support and implement science-based approaches and institute model curricula in local school;
5) sponsor alternative drug-free activities;
6) and involve under-represented populations in the activities and leadership of the coalition. CA/NCF
