Yamhill County is the fiscal agent for the Yamhill County Prevention Council. The council serves the rural county of Yamhill, Oregon that includes the ten rural communities of Amity, Carlton, Dayton, Dundee, Lafayette, McMinnville, Newberg, Sheridan, Willamina, and Yamhill. The county has a population of 88,000.
To achieve the goals of reducing substance abuse among youth and of strengthening collaboration among community sectors to affect this anti-drug effort, the coalition will implement the following strategies:
1) promote anti-drug messages on the weekly teen talk radio program;
2) provide training for law enforcement members to raise skills/knowledge of identification, resources, and enforcement;
3) provide a quarterly "Talk About It Tuesday" parent newsletter and school-based student activities;
4) sustain the resource center, dissemination/lending library;
5) support the youth empowerment squad, a positive youth development project, and promote youth-led/youth-directed public presentations;
6) provide underage access prevention training to alcohol retailers;
7) implement one model program within each sector of coalition membership;
8) provide prevention training for community members to promote healthy lifestyles and environmental change; and
9) take appropriate steps to engage new coalition members. CA/NCF
