Description of original award (Fiscal Year 1999, $50,000)
The Truancy Reduction Demonstration Program for Tacoma Public Schools serves 6th,7th and 8th grade students in McIlvaigh Middle School. The program utilizes a referral process to the schools CORE Team and provides interventions for students their parents and any other interested adults.
The goals of this continuation project are to continue implementation of the truancy intervention/prevention project at the school for truant and at-risk youth; continue to increase the community awareness about truancy, and to link existing Safe Streets Youth Programs and neighborhood initiatives with the truancy reduction project.
